1967 Ford F250 Good Humor Ice Cream Truck
Founded over 100 years ago in 1920, Good Humor symbolizes American popular culture and lives on today. The company name was born from the belief that a person’s humor or temperament says something about their sense of taste, as Good Humor puts it, the humor of the palate. Good Humor revolutionized how children across America would buy and enjoy ice cream on a hot summer’s day by inventing the ice cream truck and bringing smiles.
The fuel crisis of the 1970s turned Good Humor into a money-losing business and the advent of competitors selling soft-serve ice cream also contributed to its downfall. By the early 1970s, roughly 1,200 trucks were still in operation, with the rest sold to independent vendors.
All the trucks were sold by 1978, and it’s believed that less than 100 have survived. Good Humor did, however, become profitable again in 1984 when it focused on grocery store sales.
